The Fresh Prince, Seattle’s D.J. and Aspiring Music Producer

By Ilse M. Craft

“Who is this D.J.?” That’s what you’ll begin to ask on a Saturday night as Disc Jockey and aspiring music producer Christopher Atchison, better known as “D.J. Charma” (Karma) takes over the club scene in Seattle. The quiet Seattle born native has one hell of an ear for music, from Marvin Gaye, to Bobby Brown, to Jay-Z and top 40, he’s got it all. For an eighties baby, it’s very impressive to be able to cater to so many different types of crowds and age groups while keeping them going, which is the reason clubs and businesses love to have him. D.J. Charma’s unique sense of style has given him the opportunity to spin at some of Seattle’s hottest night clubs and lounges including Twilight, Ibiza/GLO, and O’Asians. Events have included parties, fashion shows, community festivals and even weddings. This kid’s got talent!

As the city of Seattle is slowly pushing hip-hop out of its night clubs due to the many mis-haps it seems to cause, D.J. Charma still manages to find a way to keep his diverse crowds moving and coming back for more. As an educated African-American University of Washington graduate, this D.J. has an eclectic understanding of what wants to be heard minus the. You’ll have to see this for yourself, it’s a trip, he’s seemed to have mastered a happy medium of having fun with pop-culture vs. promoting violence and drugs. As Will Smith was to the rap game in the early 90s, Charma truly is the “Fresh Prince” of DJing.

Dedicated and loyal to music, let’s not leave out Charma’s main inspiration for DJing in the first place, beat making. As he loves experimenting with new sounds and genres, Charma hopes to soon be the next best thing for upcoming and already established artist and is well on his way. He uses the latest and some of the best quality technology including Technic 1200 turntables, Serato Scratch and Pro Tools. Business minded and trend-setting, he’s on a mission as he hopes to travel through music and “leave fingerprints all over the world.” D.J. Charma takes pride in being the people’s choice, hear it for yourself.
